Due to the devastation caused by the April 27 tornado, the Bridgebuilder Tournament will not be held this year.
Greetings Bridge Builder Celebrity Golf Tournament Supporters:
On behalf of the men of Alpha Tau Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., I would like to thank you for your support of the Bridge Builder Celebrity Golf Classic. Given the devastation that occurred in Tuscaloosa and other areas of Alabama as a result of the April 27th tornadoes, we have decided not to host the tournament this year. Instead, we have made a commitment to focus our efforts on providing assistance to these communities during their recovery process.
Almost immediately following the devastation here in Alabama, members of our Fraternity, working with many other caring volunteers, have helped with almost every aspect of the rescue and recovery efforts. We are providing services in the Tuscaloosa community as well as in some of the harder hit areas in the Alabama Black Belt such as the counties of Sumter, Hale, and Greene.
While our efforts will continue to focus on tornado relief and recovery, we feel that it is equally important that we find a way to continue to support programs that build bridges of opportunity for our youth. Over the past ten years, proceeds from the tournament have provided college scholarships for deserving high school students; they have also provided funds for students' access to programs and services that enhance leadership qualities and encourage academic excellence.
On Friday, June 24, 2011, at 7:00 p.m., a reception will be held in honor of the 2011 Scholarship recipients, their families, and those who provide support to our youth at The Zone which is located in the Bryant-Denny Stadium on the campus of The University of Alabama. A tornado relief Day of Service has been planned for Saturday, June 25, 2011. We hope that you would consider making a donation to the tornado relief effort of your choice or to The Bridge Builder Celebrity Golf Classic and our effort to support our youth. With your assistance and all of us working together, we are confident that we will recover, rebuild, restore our communities, and continue to build bridges of opportunity for our youth.
